We gave ourselves permission to be full-on tourists today —and Guggenheim Museum Bilbao was the perfect place to start. The building itself is just as striking as everyone says, all curves and shimmering metal, and stepping inside felt like entering a piece of art as much as viewing it. We took our time wandering through the exhibits, letting the morning unfold slowly.

Afterward, we hopped on the Artxanda Funicular to ride up the mountain for panoramic views over the city. It seemed like a great plan—until the weather had other ideas. Just as we reached the top, the clouds rolled in and the rain started. To make matters more “authentic,” it was Mothers Day, so the restaurant we had hoped to try was completely packed. A bit soggy and slightly amused, we accepted defeat and headed back down the mountain the same way we came.

Back in the city, we slowed things down with a wander through the streets, eventually making our way to Cathedral of Santiago. Stepping inside was a complete shift in atmosphere—quiet, dim, and beautiful in a way that invites you to pause. It was the perfect place to end the day, away from the crowds and the rain, taking in the calm and the history.

Not everything went according to plan today, but in a way, that made it even better. A little rain, a missed lunch spot, and plenty of unexpected moments—exactly the kind of day that makes travelling memorable.

”Good views, good company, and a reminder that the unexpected often makes the best memories.”
