Today was our much-needed bonus day —a chance to slow down, rest our legs, and simply enjoy where we were. Of course, Camino rest days still begin with practical things – like laundry. When you’re carrying everything you own for two weeks on your back, there isn’t much clothing, so laundry becomes part of the rhythm of the journey.

After getting that done, we headed out for our favourite breakfast: tostada con tomato. Simple, fresh, and somehow always exactly what we need.

From there, we spent the day wandering along Playa de la Salve, the longest beach in Cantabria. We walked along the beach, dipped our toes into the lovely sea, and enjoyed the ocean air and the sound of the waves. After days of walking, it felt wonderful to simply slow down and enjoy the beauty around us.

We eventually made our way out to the pier. Since it was farther than expected, we decided stop there for lunch and shared a beautiful sea bass for two. We were definitely thankful for the larger meal earlier in the day!

The afternoon was filled with more wondering, a little relaxing, and even a well earned nap. Supper was simple — just a few tapas — the perfect ending to a lovely, easy day.

Sometimes the best Camino days are not about the kilometres walked, but about taking time to rest, breathe, and enjoy the journey .

“Joy is found in simple things : warm toast, sea air, and tired legs.”
